Duncan just
wants to do some colouring but when he opens his box of crayons all he finds are letters of complaint. Beige is tired of playing second fiddle to Brown. Blue needs a break from colouring all that water. Orange and Yellow aren't speaking to each other and Red is complaining of having to work too hard. They are all saying the same thing: we quit.
Brilliantly simple and wonderfully humorous with each double page vignette characterising that crayon's complaint. Their individual personalities are distinctively and expressively drawn. There is perfect synergy with the witty text and the whole multi-layered, but child- centred, experience projects a positive message about freedom and creativity
I really want to read this book it sounds funny and the front cover is quite cool. I hope i like it.

I read this book to a group of 5yr olds and they really loved it. I liked the idea that crayons can get upset by over or under use. Be careful what you do with your crayons as they might go on strike :)

ReplyDeleteI loved this book; the author has the most amazing idea to write this book, i have never heard about a book about crayons quitting. i also love that everything in the book that Duncan does is what i think we all do, i over use and under use crayons almost everything the author wrote about i could relate to. The illustrations in this book were amazingly awesome i love how the pictures that Duncan draws looks like a child drew it but the crayons he drew like they have their own personality. the day the crayons quit is my favorite book on the green way list.

ReplyDeleteHi Feneti, I'm really glad you like this book. I think it is lovey and funny too. I read it to a class of 5 year olds who thought it was very funny that if you take the paper off a crayon you have left them 'naked'. If you look at the final page with the really colourful drawing have you seen how the purple dragon is really neatly coloured in, do you think the illustrator did that because purple crayon complained about wanting to be within the lines. I think this book flows beautifully and is a great read for both young and old.

I agree that The Day the Crayons Quit will win the Kate Greenaway Medal because I like how unique it was that the crayons wrote him notes about what he was doing wrong.

My vote goes to this book too. This book has a cute idea that the crayons talk. The have good objections and the book is funny. The pictures are also colourful.

I have now read this book and I love it, it is a great childrens book and quite funny. I too have left all my crayons naked......uh oh.
